MEAT CLUB 05 - VENISON & WINE
NOVEMBER 19th 2026
VENISON & WINE TASTING
An evening of fire, food and wine with chef GILL MELLER & vintner WILL HEATON-LIVINGSTONE.
As this will be the last MEAT CLUB of 2026 I thought we would go all out.
So this month Gill will be cooking up some beautiful dishes using Venison direct from Denhay Farm, after we have sampled a selection of delicious wines from Selected Grapes.
-------
Gill Meller - "I’m a chef, food writer, food stylist and cookery teacher living by the coast on the Devon–Dorset border. Since I was a boy, I’ve been inspired by the natural world - the changing light, the weather, the hedgerows and the shoreline. Learning to cook deepened that connection, drawing me closer to the land and the sea, the rhythm of the seasons, and the farmers, growers and fishermen who live and work around me. Through my cooking and recipes, I hope to encourage people to think a little more about how their food is produced, where it comes from, and the impact our food choices might have on the world around us. Simple, honest ingredients and a respect for where they come from remain at the heart of everything I do."
Will LIVINGSTON- Fresh from a former life in the hospitality industry, Will and his wife Alex took over Selected Grapes with the desire to share their friendships within the trade and develop their passion for wine. The combination of Will's former career as an organic grower and his experience in restaurants forges his personal focus in viticulture and wine making. "We keep over 300 varieties in stock, each personally chosen and carefully sourced. We live by the motto “Do one thing well”, so we keep our offering almost exclusively grape-based and in addition to wine, we stock beers, local cider, Sherry and Port."
-------
We will kick off the evening with tasting a selection of wines especially chosen by Will to compliment the dishes that Gill is cooking - these wines will be available to buy later on by the glass or bottle. This will be followed by a short talk about deer management and culling on the farm, followed by Gill's wonderful food all cooked over the open fire.
This is a social event , not a sit down dinner , where guests can get involved with the prep and cooking over fire, ask questions and learn more about the craft of blacksmithing , the food world and different cooking techniques and styles.
